MIDA is an annual fundraiser for the Hamida Ravenel Patrick Oncology Fund at MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in Charleston, SC lasting through the month of October.
Driven by community support, our mission is to celebrate the bright legacy and magnanimous spirit of Hamida Patrick (July 28, 1987 - July 1, 2021).
One of Hamida’s most contagious attributes was a commitment to supporting and building her local community. She valued human connection above all. She had an innate, joyful way of bringing people together and encouraging a spirit of advancement – personally, spiritually and professionally.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Participants include individuals and a coalition of local businesses in Charleston that Hamida loved and supported. Throughout the month of October 2022, these contributors will donate a portion of their sales or individual gift.
If you're an individual or local business wanting to help us raise money for the incredible cause, here are some suggestions:
Create one unique product or offering / entire proceeds will be donated to the cause.
Host a MIDA-dedicated shopping event. For example, HART will host a special shopping experience in their store on October 6th with proceeds benefiting MIDA
Create a promotional code (i.e. MIDA)
Select one or two days whereby the entire portion of sales will be donated.
Simply donate and help us spread the word on social media (@midacharleston)
All proceeds go directly to the Hamida Ravenel Patrick Oncology Fund at Hollings Cancer Center,
an 71 NCI Designated Cancer Center in the US.
Her fund supports prevention and control:
MUSC Mobile Health Unit provides cancer screening and education services to communities designated as the most medically underserved in South Carolina. Services include breast and cervical exams and HPV vaccinations.
Scientific research for developing novel therapies for gynecological malignancies.

All donations to the
Hamidatu Ravenel Patrick Fund will be matched dollar-for-dollar, up to $25,000.
Gifts of any size will be doubled in impact—through your support, we aim to extend MIDA’s community impact far beyond our $50,000 goal. Your generosity will be highlighted and matched once more during MUSC’s annual fundraiser, Gourmet and Grapes, in February 2023.
Hamidatu Fatmata Ravenel Patrick passed away in July of 2021 after a battle against her 2019 cervical cancer diagnosis.
The cornerstone of Hamida’s unyielding support to the Charleston community was participation. Professionally and personally, she showed up and gave back, always with unity as her focus. Her innate ability to connect with another person or find a way to create unions between others made her magnetic.
Nothing was ever exclusively professional; she worked in several retail locations including Billy Reid and Hampden Clothing, both on King Street. In addition, Hamida was a proud member of the Board of Directors of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Lowcountry. Being in Hamida’s orbit meant she took personal care in the success and well-being of every person she met.
